I urge you to support a critical piece of legislation before the New York State Legislature: A.442 (Paulin) / S.1385 (Gallivan), which would protect the title “Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist” (CRNA) for the more than 1,300 CRNAs in New York State.
Title recognition in no way changes CRNAs’ scope of practice, but the lack of it is hurting our profession, the hospitals we work in and the patients we serve.
Title protection will guarantee that the state has the proper authority to recognize and regulate our practice, which in turn will ensure the safety of our patients.
We are highly trained, experienced, advanced practice nurses. CRNAs provide the majority of anesthesia care to rural and medically underserved areas of the state.
New York is one of the last two states that fail to recognize CRNAs and the critical services we provide.
Unfortunately, CRNAs are leaving New York to practice in states where we can care for patients to the full extent of our expertise and training. New Yorkers across the state are increasingly losing access to necessary, affordable and quality health care.
Now is the time to pass legislation that will strengthen patient care across New York.
